Pandagpanda was established in Nairobi in 2021 by a group of journalists and analysts who had spent years watching Kenya's economic story being filtered through international outlets whose primary audience was overseas investors. The result was a persistent gap: Kenyan households, small business owners, civil servants, and students were consuming economic news written for someone else. Pandagpanda exists to close that gap. The newsroom is small — a core editorial team of six, supplemented by three regional correspondents who report from Mombasa, Kisumu, and Eldoret — but its output is disciplined and specific. Since launch, the team has published more than 400 original articles covering Kenya's five core economic beats: macro-economy, business, labour market, policy, and household budget. Every story is produced according to a two-source minimum standard, and all data points are attributed to named agencies: the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics, the Central Bank of Kenya, the National Treasury, and other verifiable institutional sources. Pandagpanda does not operate as an investment advisory service. Our readers will not find stock picks, currency-trading signals, or asset-allocation guidance on this platform — those activities fall outside our editorial mandate and outside the professional competencies of a journalism organisation. A reporter collects the primary document directly from the issuing institution. A second team member independently verifies the headline figures. An editor then shapes the explainer, applying a plain-English test: if a concept cannot be explained in two sentences without jargon, it requires a dedicated sidebar. Stories are fact-checked before publication and corrected transparently if errors are identified after. We cover the East African region with Nairobi as our editorial centre of gravity, but our correspondents ensure that Mombasa's port economy, Kisumu's Lake Victoria trade, and the agricultural dynamics of the Rift Valley are not invisible in our coverage. We are honest about the limits of our resources: Pandagpanda is a small team, and our depth of coverage varies by beat.
